- You're talking about two different thing, DTE & DCE. 19.2 is the DTE (Data
- Terminal Equipment)--the speed between your computer and the modem. 14.4 is
- the DCE (Data Communications Equipment)--the speed between your modem and your
- ISP's modem. It depends on which rate your modem reports to the computer to
- determine what's being shown on the screen. If you transfer compressable
- data, text file, ASCII file, etc., you'll get throughput close to the DTE
- speed 'cos the modems will compress the data. If you transfer
- non-compressible files, ZIP, JPG, etc., your throughput will get close to only
- the DCE rate 'cos that's the "true" communication speed. I hope this helps
